2,700+ U.S. soldiers dead. 18,000+ more wounded, many maimed for life. A conservative estimate of 130,000 Iraqi civilians dead. An on-going and escalating civil war which is claiming 6,000 more Iraqi lives monthly. America's financial future mortgaged, and our collective moral reputation in tatters around the world.
And the smug, little fuck of a man George W. Bush (and oh how I loathe to even call him a man) says that "when the final history is written on Iraq, it'll look just like a comma..." Wow! I thought I had seen how low Bush and his minions could sink into the moral abyss. I thought I had seen the peak which their unbridled hubris and hypocrisy could soar. I thought I had heard the worst of their horrifyingly ignorant ravings on all things important and sacred. It appears I was wrong on all accounts.
Some acquaintances of mine ask me on occasion what fuels my hatred of Bush and his ilk. In the beginning, I would try to nuance my response by saying that my hatred wasn't for the man himself, but for his lack of character and honesty along with his politics and his policies. But over the past couple of years I've come to realize that the politics and policies are simply byproducts of the man and those he does his bidding for (the rich, big-business, military-industrial-complex elites and the religious rightwing). Those factors can be dealt with by simply voting the bastard and his enablers out of office. And even though these anti-American sons of bitches are making every underhanded criminal effort to corrupt the American election process at every turn, it is a battle that can be overcome by the masses if they simply demand it and demand it with a collective fury. That day cannot come too soon -- and I hope for it knowing all too well that the future of our republic depends on it.
But the quandary of dealing with the man, Bush -- is a much, much more treacherous endeavour. You see, I've come to believe that George W. Bush, the man, is pure, unadulterated, Grade AAA fucking evil. Any human being with a sentient grasp of compassion and humanity in their soul would not, could not make such a blithely cold-blooded, unfeeling and dismissive statement about the human slaughter that has taken place and is still taking place in Iraq.
Venequelan President Hugo Chavez (whom I used to think was a nutball leader in the mold of Cuba's Castro) said on the floor of the U.N. a couple of weeks ago, "The devil came here yesterday," he said, referring to Mr Bush's speech on Tuesday. "It still smells of sulphur today." Of course that silly rant sent the right-wingers and their media sock-puppets into a mouth-frothing tizzy, their self-righteous (and faux) indignation ignoring the glaring fact that they themselves have mastered the vile art of personal smearmanship. But, the point is, I am no longer thinking Hugo Chavez has a few screws loose. It's quite clear to me now --- as clear as Dick Cheney's [5] Vietnam draft deferments, as clear as the Republican party's cowardice and corruption, as clear as Fox News' GOP propagandizing, as clear as Rush Limbaugh's heroin addiction --- clear, clear, clear!!!! --- that George W. Bush is a scumbag, piece of human shit.
And I swear, the next person, friend or foe, who looks me in the eye and tells me that George W. Bush is MY President, and that I should support him in all he does -- I'm going to just fucking slug them in the mouth -- even if it results in my own ass getting the shit kicked out of it. It will be worth it -- worth it because I took a stand and spoke the truth -- and all the bruises, broken bones, fat lips and black eyes in the world can never change the truth.
