The Fight Must Go On . . .

There are times when I tire of the battle against ignorance and hatred. Times when I feel it's all a big waste of time and effort and nothing will ever change so why worry or bother. And when those awful, defeatist feeling's hit me, I simply desire nothing more than to get up and walk away from it all and just say - Fuck it! Let 'em say what they want to say and let 'em do what they want to do - why should I care?

And then I see things like this [picture of billboard seen in Missouri this week]:

and this [picture of billboard seen in Colorado this week]:

. . . and I'm starkly reminded of why I fight them. And it also helps me understand much more clearly why it is that I must continue to face off against these bastards. And so with renewed vigor I renew my vow to keep exposing the true America haters and to never shut up about it.

Because it boils down to this -- the kind of future United States of America that the right-wing goons have in mind for this country is not the kind of future I want for my children and grandchildren. We saw a glimpse of that kind of future these past 8 years from the constitution shredding, war-mongering, disaster-capitalism, neo-con assholes and that alone was enough to make me want to get involved and do everything in my humble power to stop them.

Anyhow, I've obviously gotten over my temporary crisis of faith in the cause of Truth, Justice and The American Way and so I willingly and with great gusto throw myself back into the fray. Let's get it on!

And as far as those of you -- family, friend, anonymous reader, who are of the opinion that the 8 years of Bush/Cheney/GOP rule were the greatest thing to happen to America since sliced bread ---- well, I only have one thing to say to you all -- Fuck you and everyone who thinks like you. But as god is (purportedly) with his sinners -- I still love you. : )

Stewart vs. The Fear Mongerers

Thanks Jon for doing the job this country's mainstream media (along with the Democratic party leaders) is too gutless and craven to do.

The Rude one speaketh . . .

The Rude Pundit contemplates the unholy existence of Ann Coulter and Sarah Palin. Excerpts from each column:

On Ann Coulter:

And then the whole fucking column explodes into a mushroom cloud of bugfuck insanity the likes of which haven't been seen since William Safire kept writing love poems to an invisible marmoset in his later New York Times columns: "Next time you're at a cocktail party, just start saying, 'Chocolate pudding is dramatic irony' from time to time. Eventually other people will start saying it, without anyone bothering to consider whether it makes sense." You get the point? It's a nonsense phrase, like "diversity is a strength."

You don't? No, of course not. Because what you are actually witnessing is the pathetic last heaves of outrage-mongering by Ann Coulter, who is stumbling around like a coke-snorting heiress who's shoved her inheritance up her nose and is begging to still be let past the velvet rope into the club she helped build. She'll be blowing Glenn Beck for appearances any day now.

On Sarah Palin:

Yesterday, in a bookstore here in a very red town in the middle of Tennessee, the Rude Pundit stood aghast by a table stacked with Palin's book. It reads like a passive-aggressive Rick Warren tome, where the message is that you can self-actualize through Jesus if all those fuckers holding you back get out of the way. Two or three people grabbed copies and headed towards the cash register. People are lined up for hours to meet her in Michigan today. In the end, the facts of the the book don't matter. All that matters is that idiot America has its queen.

Sigh . . . back to my bat cave.

Stewart vs. Dobbs

I've really, really, really been trying to avoid watching cable tv (news and political shows) and really, really, really trying to stay away from politics on the internet, but as fickle fate would have it, I was watching one of my favorite Comedy Central shows, The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, and saw an interview Stewart had with Lou Dobbs last night. And BAM! there it was.

In this brief 4 minute segment of that interview both Dobbs and Stewart summed up the right and left mind-sets, as it relates to the ideological and psychological condition of the American people today, and it was nothing short of a mini-revelation of sorts for me.

I'm sure it will come as no surprise that I ended up agreeing with what Jon Stewart had to say regarding the strength of America's representative Democracy as it stands presently, but in order to truly understand why I side with him, you really have to watch the clip. Dobbs made some decent points as well and Stewart did acknowledge them. Ultimately though, Stewart's final summary simply torpedoed Dobb's blanket pronouncement that America is a "fragile" country and that America can't handle a little dose of liberal leadership and legislative brinkmanship. Stewart made his case bluntly and coherently and it was a fitting exclamation point on a very entertaining and interesting interview.

The clip below is part 3 of a 3 part interview. You can catch the other 15 minutes of part 1 and part 2 on Comedy Central's website if you want to watch the whole thing from beginning to end.

And now -- back to my insanity sabbatical.

Time Out!

I need a little break from this stuff. There's times when the frustration, anger and feeling of powerlessness just overwhelms one's sentient equilibrium. I need to avoid my keyboard (and cable t.v.) for a couple of weeks maybe and then I'll be ok. Consider it a mind and soul rejuvenating process.

Might extend till after Turkey Day ... see how I feel in about a week.

Oh fer gawd's sake Sarah -- will you just STFU??

Sarah Palin joins the lemming-like chorus of right-wing buffoons in decrying Obama administration Attorney General Eric Holder's decision to try the five individuals accused of conspiring to commit the 9/11 attacks — including alleged mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammed — in U.S. federal court in New York City.

Nevermind the successful precedent for such prosecutions (the 1993 World Trade Center bombers for example), but you really have to marvel at the level of ignorance from the righties as to what precisely is the defintion of "the rule of law" as it relates to the United States system of justice. Honestly, I don't think they have a fucking clue.

The uproarious, knee-jerk reaction to the announcement is typical of these know-nothing hyenas. Frankly, I'm convinced that Obama could don the hangman's hood and pull the lever himself and these conservative jackasses would still bitch and moan and call for his impeachment.

And as far as Sarah Palin goes?? Why would anyone in their right mind put any stock whatsoever in a single fucking thing the woman who did not know Africa was a continent and who thought Afghanistan was America's neighboring country has to say? Why is this woman's viewpoints relevant at all on this subject (much less any other)?

It boggles my mind to no end.

Anyhow, if the New York prosecutions of the 1993 WTC bombers were good enough for Rudy Giuliani, then Holder's decision to prosecute in the same manner sure as fuck ought to be good enough for Rudy's sycophantic proponents in the GOP and the rest of the conservative movement. But then again, the Attorney General and his boss the POTUS weren't black, liberal Democrats back then were they now?

Just saying . . . .

Lying Liars . . .

**UPDATE**: Here is another review of John Farmer's book by a former U.S. Marines combat veteran Gordon Duff writing for the Salem News (Oregon).

*************************************************************************************

I imagine it's too much to ask my conservative friends to lay aside their pitchforks and "Obama = Hitler" signs for a moment to read a book review article about how Americans were bamboozled into believing that the behavior and actions of the Bush administration, both prior to and after the 9/11 attacks, were much more stellar and heroic than was actually true.

A gentleman by the name of John Farmer wrote the book reviewed in the NY Times article referenced above. Farmer is no liberal, wild-eyed conspiracy loon - far from it. He was the attorney general of New Jersey (1999-2002), then chief counsel to GOP Governor Christie Todd-Whitman, and a federal prosecutor. Farmer went on to serve as Senior Counsel to the 9/11 Commission (officially known as the National Commission on Terrorist Attacks Upon the United States) chaired by former New Jersey Governor Thomas Kean and former Indiana Congressman Lee H. Hamilton. Farmer's startling book was released days before the eighth anniversary of the 9/11 attacks and is an eye-opening expose into the bizarro world of right-wing deceit and incompetence on a grand scale.

Here is an excerpt from the article:
As senior counsel to the 9/11 Commission, Farmer, who was the attorney general of New Jersey and is the dean of the Rutgers School of Law, investigated the derelict conduct of the national security apparatus. He was well prepared to do so. In their valuable account of the commission’s activities, “Without Precedent,” the commission chairman, Thomas Kean, and the vice chairman, Lee Hamilton, noted that shortly after the attacks, Farmer — “one of our most important hires” — established a victims’ assistance center in New Jersey and helped the F.B.I. uncover important evidence in garbage at Newark International Airport. But the commission’s efforts to reconstruct the tragedy itself were, at best, resented and, at worst, impeded by the sprawling defense bureaucracy and the Bush administration, both of which had much to hide. Even two reports by the inspectors general of the Defense and Transportation Departments, released in 2006, whitewashed government failures. Now that numerous transcripts and tapes have been declassified, however, Farmer draws on them to assail the government’s official depiction of 9/11 as so much public relations flimflam.
The mainstream media in this country is just as guilty as the Bush crowd for the deceptions perpetrated on the American people regarding the events surrounding 9/11. The media failed miserably at it's job of keeping Americans truthfully informed as to why 9/11 happened and how the Bush administration handled the aftermath of the attacks. That colossal failure stemmed from the corporate controlled media's craven fear of being labled unpatriotic and terrorist appeasers by the Bushistas at a time of national outrage. Basically, when the American people most needed the fourth estate to do their jobs, the cowards were cowering behind George Bush, Dick Cheney and the mighty, right-wing wurlitzer noise machine. It's why I no longer have any faith in our mainstream media - none, nada, zilch!

Anyhow, I've read a few additional excerpts of Farmer's book on other web sites and I plan on purchasing it as soon as possible to read the whole sordid story. Not sure why, but right now, out on Amazon.com, Farmer's book is selling at the incredibly high asking price of $114. I'll have to look around for someone selling it at a more reasonable cost. Although, I must say, based on the excerpts I've read so far, the $114 price-tag might just be worth it.

But getting back to my opening statement aimed at conservatives -- if you people can peel your eyes away from Fox News long enough and have even the slightest desire to be exposed to some unfiltered truth and reality for a change, read the NY Times book review article and then go out and do your own research on Farmer and his book. The truth just might set you free.

One of the saddest lessons of history is this: If we've been bamboozled long enough, we tend to reject any evidence of the bamboozle. We're no longer interested in finding out the truth. The bamboozle has captured us. it is simply too painful to acknowledge -- even to ourselves -- that we've been so credulous. Once you give charlatans power over you, you almost never get it back.

Weekend M-Vloggin' -- with The Eagles

Sarah Palin has a new book coming out next week and some ambitious journalists at the Associated Press got an advanced copy and fact-checked it for us.

Based on the results of that fact-checking mission I offer a video music paean to dear Sarah and the release of her much anticipated semi-autobiography. The humble offering consists of a couple of songs from one of my all-time favorite groups -- The Eagles.

The titles of these two songs alone tell you everything you need to know about the Pit-Bull in lipstick from Wasilla, Alaska. Enjoy.

krazee being "Fair and Balanced" (the way it should be done)

Here -- just to prove to my Republican friends that I am indeed an equal opportunity condemner:

ALEXANDRIA, Va. (AP) — A former Louisiana congressman who famously stashed cash in his freezer was sentenced Friday to 13 years in prison for taking hundreds of thousands in bribes in exchange for using his influence to broker business deals in Africa.

The sentence handed down in suburban Washington was far less than the nearly 30 years prosecutors had sought for William Jefferson, a Democrat who represented parts of New Orleans for nearly 20 years.

I got no problem seeing corrupt Democrats in prison jumpsuits, and the 30 year sentence prosecutors were seeking in this case would have suited me just fine.
