Rand Paul -- The Great White Teabagging Hope . . .

Visit msnbc.com for breaking news, world news, and news about the economy

Being the political junkie that I am, I've been keeping a lazy eye on this guy Rand Paul for awhile now. The past few days, coming off his Kentucky GOP primary win, junior Paul has made the television interview rounds. And the impression I get after seeing those interviews? This guy is the wet-dream candidate of the teabagger clowns.

In the past few days Paul has managed this trifecta of asininity:

1. When asked if Tea Partiers were within their rights to violently overthrow the current government, he smugly smiled and then an aide quickly stepped in and shut down the interview.

2. Paul then defends the right of private businesses to discriminate against people based on race.

3. Paul then goes on to trash the Americans with Disabilities Act and the Civil Rights Act (although he quickly backtracked the following day after media scrutiny of what he stated).

And today, junior Paul goes on the t.v. yet again and calls President Obama "un-American" for criticizing international oil conglomerate British Petroleum for their disastrous handling of the still unfolding environmental catastrophe in the Gulf of Mexico:

Whew! All that's missing from Paul is a declaration that every citizen in every state, city, township should be walking around in public and "legally" armed with AK-47's and Tec-9's.

This guy is the essence, or afterbirth, of the Teabagger mentality. And there is little doubt that Paul intends to tap into the seething right wing hatred, the not so subtle racism, and the misguided anger that a great many middle-class, white Americans are experiencing now as a result of the nearly collapsed U.S. economic system.

He's an opportunist of the worst sort and in my view the worst kind of person you want to have in any position of governmental authority.

There's 6 months until election day. Hopefully Paul will continue to open his yap and show people what a fool and a huckster he truly is and how out of touch he is with mainstream America and reality and come election day he will be relegated to the scrap heap of Teabagger history.
