They Want Their Failure and They Want it Now!

AP Headline: Unemployment soars to 8.5 pct.; 13 million jobless

This folks - is the face of failure as a nation.

This is what the GOP's de facto leader Rush Limbaugh is hoping for.

It's what GOP House Caucus Chairman Rep. Mike Pence is hoping for.

It's what the GOP's 2012 great dark hope, Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal, is hoping for.

It's what a great many Republicans are hoping for quite frankly.

They can nuance it all they want but it doesn't change the stark naked selfishness of what they stand for. If Obama fails, the GOP will have gained their political ammunition and talking points for the next election - and really that is all that matters to them. Never mind the sad and frightening fact that America as a collective entity fails along with Obama and many good, hard-working people will be irreparably hurt in the process. That horrific prospect simply does not register as a negligible concern to the party that shamelessly cheered on and abetted George W. Bush, Dick Cheney and company as they drove America into the proverbial ditch these past 8 years and left a colossally fucked up country and world for the adults to clean up.

My own daughter was laid off today after 5+ years of loyal service to her company. No thank you, no heartfelt "sorry!" - just a pink slip and her final paycheck. Very similar to what the GOP poobahs did to America as the Bushies were leaving town -- they gave us all pink slips and walked off into the sunset, smirking and beating their chests about how great they were and how ungrateful we little people were not to appreciate their greatness.

Anyhow, good fucking riddance they are gone - that is truly something to be grateful for. And we now have true, mature leadership in charge - leadership whose policies obviously will not please all of the people all of the time, but at least they aren't wholly-owned assets of corporate-whore America and the insanely foolish religious/neo-con right. That alone makes for both progress and hope.
