The "Birther" Chronicles (cont.)

Eric Boehlert at MMFA delves a bit deeper in to the psyche of the mainstream media's (CNN's Lou Dobbs in particular) self-destructive game of playing footsie with the radical right wing nuts on the Obama birth certificate foolishness.

Dobbs lashed out at his critics today huffily bleating that he was being unfairly attacked because he "had the temerity to inquire as to where the birth certificate was and why the president of the United States would not turn over that birth certificate to the national media and end the noise."

No Lou, you fucking Ass-clown, you are not being attacked for your "temerity" (daring). You are being attacked because you psychotically insist on pimping and whoring a completely and thoroughly debunked and discredited lie of a story utilizing your very powerful pulpit of the publicly owned airwaves. It's called irresponsibility -- which obviously is a foreign word and concept to most conservatives these days. It really is as simple as that.

One excerpt from the Boehlert MMFA column struck a chord with me. Boehlert writes,
"The birther attack is simply a parallel attempt to delegitimize Obama. Because once a public figure has been delegitimized, if only in the eyes of his critics, then all bets are off and the normal rules of conduct are discarded."
Hmmmm...why does that statement have such an eerily familiar ring to it? Oh yes! That's right! It sounds just like this statement from my earlier post today about the shadowy religious group and GOP sex scandal fixers "The Family":
But David Coe, Doug Coe's son and heir apparent, calls himself simply a friend to men such as John Ensign, whom he guided through the coverup of his affair. I met the younger Coe when I lived for several weeks as a member of the Family. He's a surprising source of counsel, spiritual or otherwise. Attempting to explain what it means to be chosen for leadership like King David was -- or Mark Sanford, according to his own estimate -- he asked a young man who'd put himself, body and soul, under the Family's authority, "Let's say I hear you raped three little girls. What would I think of you?" The man guessed that Coe would probably think that he was a monster. "No," answered Coe, "I wouldn't." Why? Because, as a member of the Family, he's among what Family leaders refer to as the "new chosen." If you're chosen, the normal rules don't apply.
And therein lies the crux of the matter -- that recurrent theme of no accountability. What appears to be the case -- normal rules of conduct utterly do not apply to conservatives. Rules, decorum, decency, honesty, integrity --- none of these ideals apply to right-wing conservatives! And therefore, bereft of conscience or principles, they flail about savagely with their stupidity, their hatefulness, and their smug self-righteousness and in the process cast a dark pall of shame over the country and everything decent and honorable that America stands for.
