Until the day I die I will be forever grateful that democracy prevailed and a MAJORITY of Americans made the right decision in 2008 and drove a stake deep into into the heart of right wing conservatism and the nasty side-effects it has engendered such as hate, bigotry, fascism, fundamentalist religious quackery, war mongering, fear mongering, etc. ... not that it has accomplished the ultimate goal of entirely marginalizing them, but it was a damn good start.

And I feel absolutely no remorse whatsoever for having stated that and here's why:

But wait! This can't be true! On May 13, 2010, about eighty soldiers, stationed at Fort Eustis while attending a training course, were punished for opting out of attending one of these Christian concerts. The headliner at this concert was a Christian rock band called BarlowGirl, a band that describes itself as taking “an aggressive, almost warrior-like stance when it comes to spreading the gospel and serving God.”

Any doubt that this was an evangelical Christian event was cleared up by the Army post’s newspaper, the Fort Eustis Wheel, which ran an article after the concert that began:

“Following the Apostle Paul’s message to the Ephesians in the Bible, Christian rock music’s edgy, all-girl band BarlowGirl brought the armor of God to the warriors and families of Fort Eustis during another installment of the Commanding General’s Spiritual Fitness Concert Series May 13 at Jacobs Theater.”

The father of the three Barlow sisters who make up the band was also quoted in the article, saying, “We really believe that to be a Christian in today’s world, you have to be a warrior, and we feel very blessed and privileged that God has given us the tool to deliver His message and arm His army.”

This is the kind of shit that scares me just as much if not more than anything Bin Laden and his box cutter wielding thugs can do to us.

They Are Expendable?? . . .

RALEIGH, N.C.—The system that automatically awards disability benefits to some veterans because of concerns about Agent Orange seems contrary to efforts to control federal spending, the Republican co-chairman of President Barack Obama's deficit commission said Tuesday.

Former Wyoming Sen. Alan Simpson's comments came a day after The Associated Press reported that diabetes has become the most frequently compensated ailment among Vietnam veterans, even though decades of research has failed to find more than a possible link between the defoliant Agent Orange and diabetes.

"The irony (is) that the veterans who saved this country are now, in a way, not helping us to save the country in this fiscal mess," said Simpson, an Army veteran who was once chairman of the Senate Veterans' Affairs Committee.

Umm - no Mr. Simpson. You are dead fucking wrong. It wasn't Vietnam Veterans who got this country into "this fiscal mess" we're in. It was assholes like you, like George W. Bush and Dick Cheney and 12 out of 14 years of Republican rule of Congress and the Executive branch. And I'll even go so far as to hang a good portion of that mantle of blame around the necks of quite a few cowardly Democrats too just to spread the blame around.

Costly, unpaid for tax cuts that went primarily to the wealthiest of Americans at a time that we were embroiled in two ill-advised wars on two separate fronts followed by an economic collapse brought on by the greed and hubris of the Wall Street thugs and bankers is what got us into "this fiscal mess." For you or anyone else to propose that we burden American Veterans in need of medical care to clean up the shit pile mess left behind by politicians, greedy corporations, and Wall Street con men, by cutting the very benefits they fought and bled for, is one of the most sickeningly offensive things I've heard in a very long time and it infuriates me beyond description.

If Alan Simpson were standing here in front of me right now, I'd tell him to go fuck himself with Dick Cheney's cold, withered, liver-spot covered penis. No -- really I would.

Idiocracy . . .

You know -- I don't deny that most, if not all, of these people believe sincerely in the things that they state in these interviews.

That sincerity in and of itself is not a bad thing and it is not what concerns me.

My problem is with the thought process behind their thinking and the poisonous effect which external influences such as Glenn Beck, Rush Limbaugh, Fox News, fundamentalist Christianity, etc., have had on that critical process.

Honestly -- how can you watch this video clip and NOT be of the belief that something is terribly, frighteningly, darkly wrong with this picture?:





The idea of mandating that voters pass a standard IQ and civics test before being allowed to vote doesn't sound so unreasonable after watching something like that. Really it doesn't.

This is what truly frightens me about the Teabaggers.

Glenn Beck is the most highly regarded individual among Tea Party supporters of the people we tested. He scores an extraordinarily high 75 percent warm rating, 57 percent very warm.

This affinity for Beck came through very clearly in the focus groups. The only news source that participants said they could trust was Fox. Glenn Beck, Bill O’Reilly, and Sean Hannity were cited as people who “are not afraid to tell it like it is” and support their arguments with solid facts. Beck was undoubtedly the hero in these groups. Participants consider him an “educator” (in contrast to the popular Rush Limbaugh who is an “entertainer”) who teaches people history and puts himself at risk because he exposes the truth. In the words of a woman in Ft. Lauderdale, “I would trust my life in his hands.”

Other comments are just as laudatory:

"I like the way he’s trying to get back to the basics of the Constitution of the United States because I think that’s where our government is losing focus. They’re trying to change the Constitution or somehow twist it…"

"He brings out facts… And he actually shows the people saying the things. It’s not like just sound bites. It’s not chopped and really edited. And he is scary because every time I watch the show, which is pretty much every day, my heart feels…and I feel like I want to do something."

"I’m frightened for him… Because of the things that he says. I think that he is stepping on some big toes."

"He really does his research and he really lays it out to you well; a good professor."

I mean really --- come the fuck on! If, after listening to the following clip, you still are of the belief that Glenn Beck IS NOT full of shit and IS NOT just cynically manipulating your fearful, impressionable little brain for fun and personal profit --- well --- I cannot state that I sympathize with you in any way shape or form if the Beckerheads of the world some day worm their way to power and plunge the whole fucking country into a headlong, empire collapsing free for all:





All the more reason for me to believe that this paleolithic, group-think mindset, which is prevalent amongst the Teabagger crowd and that puts someone of Glenn Beck's vapidity and manipulative charlatanism on such a lofty pedestal, is something that needs to be monitored with a healthy measure of suspicious vigilance.

Two pea(heads) in a pod . . .

Well isn't this a lovely pairing?

Glenn Beck has tagged aging rocker/gun nut Ted Nugent to speak at his 8-28 Gathering of Fuckheads. Nugent in recent years has a childish habit of strutting around on stage toting assault rifles and other various extensions of his small penis and threatening to use them on Democratic politicians.

The "Nuge" is the kind of "man" my conservative buddies drool over. In fact, I'd say they probably find themselves forced to stifle the onset of a raging hard on whenever they see and hear old Ted blustering and chest thumping about his guns and his manhood (usually on Fox News - where else?).

But here's something a lot of people don't know about Mr. Nugent. Many years ago, there was a nasty and bloody little war in a far off placed called Vietnam. It just so happens that he-man Ted was of U.S. draft age while that war was in full swing with an endless assembly line of dead American soldier's body bags being shipped back home.

So what did he-man Ted do when he was called up by his local draft board for a pre-draft physical in preparation for serving his country? If you guessed that he-man Ted was so eager to ship out to Vietnam and to gallop forth into battle with his fearless ego and his beloved guns blazing against the evil Viet Cong that he disavowed personal hygiene for a month and showed up at the draft board in clothing that he'd slept, pissed in and shit in for a week, you'd be right on the fucking money. The draft board obviously questioned Mr. Nugents mental status and sent him home. And thus America was denied a soldier hero.

After the draft board incident he-man Nuge demonstrated his courage and his humility and his sorrow at not being able to defend America from the communist hordes by making this statement:

“But if I would have gone over there, I’d have been killed, or I’d have killed all the Hippies in the foxholes. I would have killed everybody.”

Now there's a "real" man's man for ya huh?

Ted recently has been hanging out with some folks who mmmm ... lets say seem to have a wee bit of a problem with dark skinned people, Jews and foreigners.

Anyhow, I think it's fitting that the coward and closet bigot Beck invited a fellow coward and open bigot like Ted Nugent to a rally which takes place on the anniversary of Martin Luther King's "I have a Dream" speech and which the Beckster bills as his rally to "reclaim the civil rights movement."

Who says wingnuts have no affinity for divine comedy?

At one point, a portion of the crowd menacingly surrounded two Egyptian men who were speaking Arabic and were thought to be Muslims.

"Go home," several shouted from the crowd.

"Get out," others shouted.

In fact, the two men – Joseph Nassralla and Karam El Masry — were not Muslims at all. They turned out to be Egyptian Coptic Christians who work for a California-based Christian satellite TV station called "The Way." Both said they had come to protest the mosque.

"I'm a Christian," Nassralla shouted to the crowd, his eyes bulging and beads of sweat rolling down his face.

But it was no use. The protesters had become so angry at what they thought were Muslims that New York City police officers had to rush in and pull Nassralla and El Masry to safety.

"I flew nine hours in an airplane to come here," a frustrated Nassralla said afterward.

Reading that made me think of this scene from the 1943 Henry Fonda move "The Oxbow Incident."

In this scene, Fonda is reading a letter to a group of men who had just found out they had hanged an innocent man in their zeal for vengeful "justice." The words in the letter were the hanged man's last to his wife and infant sons.





I don't believe I am exaggerating in stating that I think it's just a matter of time before Fox and the wing-nuts have innocent blood on their hands.

The Disease is Spreading . . .

It truly has boiled down to the very uncomplicated fact that there are a shitload of stupid, knowledge averse, truth be damned people in this country:

Today, Pew put out a poll showing that 18 percent of the American public believes President Obama is a Muslim. That number includes 31 percent of Republicans. Only 34 percent of the adult public says Obama is a Christian, down from 48 percent in 2009. When asked how they learned about Obama’s religion, 60 percent of the respondents cited the media, with tv mentioned the most frequently.

While journalists and pundits on cable news today did acknowledge the “media” have had a role to play, they also seemed to place some of the blame on Obama and his staff, saying that perhaps the President should go to church more frequently and more openly to show the public that he truly is Christian.

I have no doubt that some of my conservative friends count themselves among the 1/3 of Republicans who believe President Obama is a Muslim. I have no doubt that they also share the belief that George W. Bush departed office leaving America in a much stronger economic state than what was left to him by his predecessor. But I gotta tell ya -- I'm going to lay it on the line here. I am sick and goddamn tired of reality denying assholes. And yes, while I do not relish thinking of people who I call friends in that terminology -- it just so happens that it is what it is. Do not waste your breath asking me to apologize for or debate that analysis.

At some point you just have to stand up for the truth, defend it and call on the purveyors of falsehoods to account for their willful ignorance and willingness to believe in and propagate lies.

With that said, I would be derelict if I failed to give a big FUCK YOU! to the media for smugly implying that other people's conscious choice to be ignorant is somehow Obama's fault and stating that he should publicly attend church more often. The fucking nerve of these people. Has the mainstream media looked in the mirror lately? Is it any wonder that a sizable percentage of sane America is of the view that the fourth estate's reputation is lower than a slug's scrotum sac?

It's just so mind bogglingly depressing to think about it all at times.
