The British are coming! The British are coming!

I was wondering when the Brits would finally tire of the lies about their health care system emanating from the right-wing kooks here in the U.S. and throw some punches back.

Looks like the final straw came when some of our wing nuts claimed that world-renowned theoretical physicist Stephen Hawking would be dead by now if his medical care were under the purvey of the British NHS (implying that he was in the U.S. and enrolled in the U.S. healthcare system).

Of course, the punchline to that joke turned out to be that Hawking was born in England, has lived his entire life in England and has been cared for his entire life by the NHS. Hawking himself came out in support of the NHS and stated, "I wouldn't be here today if it were not for the NHS," . . . "I have received a large amount of high-quality treatment without which I would not have survived."

Another classic Doh! Homer Simpson moment for the conservatives and their movement.
